Paralegal Officer (Contract)

CVC is a registered charitable organization in Jamaica comprising a coalition of community leaders and non-governmental agencies providing services directly to and on behalf of Caribbean populations who are especially vulnerable to HIV infection. The organization has representatives from across the Caribbean, and works in, Antigua, Belize, Bahamas, Dominica, Jamaica, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, St. Lucia, Barbados, Grenada, Curaçao, Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, Puerto Rico, St. Vincent, French Caribbean and Suriname. 

Through funding from the Robert Carr Network Fund (RCNF) CVC is seeking to strengthen its ability to improve access to Justice and to challenge discrimination and advance human rights of its constituent population groups through increased advocacy, improved policy monitoring and strategic litigation.  

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Working with key partners in documenting and reporting human rights abuses
  • Support complainants though interviewing , taking statements and referrals
  • Participating in legal advice sessions with pro-bono lawyers are
  • Drafting templates, information fact sheets, case-studies, briefings, report sheets on legal issues

Project Coordinator (Contract)

The organization has representatives from across the Caribbean, and works in, Antigua, Belize, Bahamas, Dominica, Jamaica, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, St. Lucia, Barbados, Grenada, Curaçao, Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, Puerto Rico, St. Vincent, French Caribbean and Suriname. 

We are looking for a highly motivated Project Coordinator with demonstrated experience in a supervisory role, commitment to social justice and human rights issues and strong experience of working on HIV and AIDS programs in the Caribbean.  The Project Coordinator will have a passion for providing technical support to community partners and hands-on experience of advocating in solidarity with vulnerabilised groups, including Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender people, sex workers, socially excluded youth or drug users. The Project Coordinator Coordinator will be responsible for supporting coordination of CVC projects across the Caribbean. 

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinating multi-country programmes of CVC
  • Providing technical support and M&E assistance to community partners through regular communication and on-site visits
  • Developing and delivering on a work plan including programmatic and administrative tasks
  • Supporting in advocacy related activities coordinated by community partners or by CVC

Training and Field Work Coordinator for the OECS Studies (Contract)

The Caribbean Vulnerable Communities Coalition (CVC) is looking to add a temporary member to its Project Unit team to act as an OECS-based Training and Field Work Coordinator to assist the Project Unit undertake two sets of studies that are to be done in conjunction with the University of Alabama’s (UAB) Sparkman Centre for Global Health.  

The Training and Field Activities fall under the overall supervision of CVC’s Programme Manager but also in close collaboration with the finance and administrative department at CVC. In this context, CVC, in close collaboration with local Technical Working Groups (TWG), in particular AIDS Commissions, Ministries of Health, and Prison Authorities will conduct the aforementioned studies to increase the information available to better address HIV and TB in the OECS. Under the overall supervision of CVC’s Project Unit and under the direct supervision of Lead Researchers, in close collaboration and consultation with relevant colleagues as well as key stakeholders including AIDS Commissions, Ministries of Health, and the prisons authorities, the Training and Field Work Coordinator will be responsible for the specific functions listed in the following section.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Set up Technical Working Groups in each of the OECS countries in coordination with MOH, Prison Authorities, local CBO’s as well as CVC and UAB project team, and act as the primary contact point for TWG
  • Assist the Lead Researchers to consult with authorities and CBO’s to sensitize them on the Study and obtain approval to facilitate access to key gatekeepers.
  • Supervise the local data collectors in coordination with the Lead Researchers in conducting community social mobilization to reduce stigma on HIV before the Study.
  • Support to the development of communication and partnership arrangements and development of a coordination mechanism between partners and CVC project unit.
